Every year Captain Tim likes to add/modify/improve something on BELUGA to keep her looking as good as the day he launched her, back in 1982.
This year we decided it was time to replace the old redwood decking. Marine decking needs to be light and strong and most importantly, not slippery when wet. For this purpose Captain Tim found some rough cut Spanish cedar planks that we took down to our friend Stephane’s mill shop (TCMillwork).
It took two weeks to measure, remove, mill and fasten it all back in place but we are back in the water now and looking better than ever. Over time the Spanish cedar will naturally ‘silver’ in the sun to match the catwalk which is the same Spanish cedar only four years older. This is the third time Captain Tim has renewed the decking and we are hoping it will last 15 years like the last one did!
