Last year Captain Tim led a fascinating expedition to recreate the landfall of Christopher Columbus’ first voyage of discovery. They showed it was possible Columbus landed at Grand Turk, by matching the descriptions in Columbus’ Diario with the scenery and sailing conditions that they encountered on the expedition. Indeed, they showed that it was not just possible, but highly probable!
This year S/V Beluga joined the expedition and sailed from Providenciales to Mayaguana in the Southern Bahamas. We spent a coulple of idyllic nights anchored off Booby Cay and spent the days exploring ashore for evidence of a Lucayan village.
This is a photograph of our Expedition Archeologist, Dr Shawn Sullivan, sailing Beluga back home to the Turks and Caicos.
